HIRECT make Cathodic Protection Transformer Rectifier unit (TRUs) comprise of Automatic, Manual & CVCC controlled. CP-TRU is used for cathodic protection of buried pipelines across the country,storage tanks at terminals /refineries and other buried structures.
Applications
TRUs are used to prevent submerged (Soil or water) metallic structures from corrosion. All submerged Pipelines (Oil, water etc.), concrete structure of bridges/ buildings / sea ports etc can be protected from corrosion by doing CP.
TRUs impress DC Currents in to the Carbon-steel/steel structure to be protected in opposite direction to the galvanic corrosion currents & protects the structure from corrosion.
To obtain the optimum level of protection under varying conditions, it is necessary to vary the impressed current continuously so as to maintain a constant level of protective potential at the structure. This continuous monitoring and control can be achieved by providing an automatic control for the cathodic protection system.

Transformer
All the Transformers used in TRUs are designed to give high efficiency with low loss. The coils are wound with high conductivity, annealed, insulated electrolytic copper and core material is high permeability, low loss CRGO/CRNGO. The insulation material used is of high standard Class F. Designed and tested as per IEC 76/IS 2026 standards.
Rectifier
Rectifiers are based on internal quality standards and our own make Diodes / Silicon Controlled Rectifiers. Rectifier circuits have different topology depending upon the load requirements.
Designed and tested as per IEC146/IS 3136 standards.
Modes of Operation
Auto Reference Mode
The operation of the TRUs in this mode will be fully Automatic and will be controlled by reference electrode feedback.The unit will automatically maintain reference voltage or P.S.P. within ± 15 mv of the set value under all conditions.
Manual Mode
The DC output voltage of TRU will be controlled in 24 symmetrical steps by means of a separate Autotransformer with Coarse & Fine tapping.
CVCC Mode
The unit will be operated in Constant Voltage or Constant Current mode.
In constant voltage mode the DC output voltage will be settable from 0 to rated value in stepless manner by means of voltage adjustable pot.
In constant current mode the DC output current will be settable from 0 to rated value in stepless manner by means of current adjustable pot.
The power Diodes available from Hirect Include Standard Rectifier diodes starting from 6Amps to 6000Amp It(av), with voltages upto 4800V(piv). These devices are offered in a variety of packages starting from M6 stud in top hat range to 3" in capsule types. In addition to rectifier diodes, a number of fast recovery diodes and other special devices with avalanche characteristics are available.

The modules package concept has now gained acceptance as it offers compact and easy to handle designs. The semiconductor junctions are electrically isolated from the base allowing common heatsinks and compact designs. The insulating materials used between chip and base is carefully chosen so that the impedance is minimised. The Hirect range extends upto 350 amps and 2200 volts and is available in Diode-Diode, Diode-Thyristor and Thyristor-Thyristor configurations.
The required circuit such as single phase bridges, 3 phase bridges and AC Regulators can be assembled with ease and flexibility using two or more such modules. The modules can be used in almost all applications where stud base or capsules devices were being used in the past.

Locomotive transformers from Hirect cater to the production units of Indian Railways. Hirect is also involved in the Rehabilitation and upgradation of the transformers for locomotives and electrical multiple units being used by Indian Railways. In the early Eighties HIRECT entered the field of Locomotive Transformers. Starting with the repairs of various transformers for WAM4, WAG2. HIRECT Supplied new Transformers 3900 kVA, 5400kVA for WAG5 & WAP7 goods and passenger locomotives. High power transformers 6500KVA and 7500kVA are offered by Hirect for the Three phase locomotives.
Hirect supplies 1000kVA conventional and 1550kVA modular transformers for the EMU's.

With the Indian Railways introducing three phase drive systems in electric locomotives and electric multiple units, Hirect also joined hands with CLW to become a partner for the manufacture of static converter for locomotives with three phase drive systems. with the absorption of technology, Hirect has become an indigenoussource for auxiliary converter and other panels required in this locomotive.
